Answers to Your Granite Cutting Questions

My house is in a Columbia historic district. Does design review cover this?

No. Design review through the city covers exterior changes and street facing work. Interior stone cutting is not part of that process. You are free to change a countertop opening without any historic approval.

Does Columbia humidity affect the cut or the seal afterward?

Humidity does not affect the cut itself, but it does slow epoxy and silicone cure times. We plan for longer set times in summer and keep the area ventilated. Rushing a seal in August is how a repair fails six months later.

Can you work around tenants in a student rental near the university?

Yes. Most rental cuts are booked in the gap between move out and move in, and they finish in one visit. We can also work in an occupied unit, since the area is sealed and cut wet.

What if my granite shifted after old flood or moisture damage under the cabinets?

We check the cabinet boxes and the support before quoting. If the base is soft or the stone has moved, that gets addressed before a blade goes anywhere near it. Cutting a top on a failing cabinet run only creates a bigger problem.
